THE RACOMA-SHIPOFFERS CONNECTION

The story begins with a chance coincidence and an opportunity to lean in, and ends with a meaningful connection.

In October 2019, two sets of diners were placed at tables next to each other at a café in Positano, along the Amalfi coast. They connected as ordinary English speakers.

One on their honeymoon, and the other celebrating an anniversary. One visiting Italy for the first time, and the other on their 15th visit. One the lead singer of a Seattle-based band, and the other the CEO of a mid-West company. The conversation flowed, lasting through tiramisu and espresso.

If you haven’t guessed yet, this is the story of how Glenn Haider, lead singer of Racoma, and Tony Grebmeier, CEO of ShipOffers, first met.

After that initial meeting, Tony went back to his hotel room and googled Glenn Haider, the lead singer mentioned. He was immediately impressed by the tone of voice and the messages Glenn delivered through lyrics and music. Tony was inspired to reach out to Glen and continue the dialogue.

Tony’s background as a radio DJ helped them connect over discussions of music and the music industry.

This connection eventually evolved into an interview for the BeFulfilled podcast in early 2020, as well as scheduling them for a special live (and now postponed) appearance at the ShipOffers’ 6th Annual VIP Dinner at T&C 2020 in San Diego.

This story shares how putting yourself out there and connecting with others can be a gift to both yourself, and the others involved.

“I define connection as the energy that exists between people when they feel seen, heard, and valued; when they can give and receive without judgment; and when they derive sustenance and strength from the relationship.” -Brené Brown

Life is nothing without connection, which we must experience to feel alive truly. Instead of leaning back and folding your arms, lean forward and reach your hand out. Introduce yourself. You never know who you will meet.
